Two goals in two minutes from Tottenham Hotspur hit-man Dimitar Berbatov saw Bulgaria banish their painful memories from Saturday, when they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands despite playing ever so well.
This time, they were not found wanting when it came to getting the ball in the back of the net, Berbatov leading the charge.
After a cagey start, the deadlock was broken by the Spurs man in the 27th minute with a brilliant header, after getting on the end of a delicious free-kick from Aston Villa midfielder Stilian Petrov.
The second came in the very next minute. If the first showcased his aerial presence, the second was touch personified as he sent a delicate lob over the back-pedaling Jonathan Joubert.
The points were secured nine minutes into the second half, when Berbatov was bundled down in the area by Eric Hoffmann.
Many thought Berbatov would complete his hat-trick, but it was Petrov who stepped up and converted with ease to make it 3-0, and earn himself a deserved goal for his effort.
The result sees Bulgaria remain in contention to qualify from Group G, though they will need Romania or the Netherlands to drop points.
Goals: 1-0 Berbatov (27'); 2-0 Berbatov (28'); 3-0 Pertov (54', pen.)
