Barcelona looking for home comfort against Rangers
Barcelona fought out a dour 0-0 draw at Rangers two weeks ago and have been widely criticised for their play away but at home, in their Nou Camp citadel, they are a different proposition.
They entertain the Scottish club in a European Champions League Group E encounter on Wednesday and Barca are looking to maintain their 100 per cent home record, in both La Liga and in Europe.
"At home we seem to be more comfortable, for whatever reason. Maybe it's because we have got the crowd behind us," said Barca's influential Spanish international playmaker Xavi Hernandez on Monday.
There is no doubt that when the Nou Camp is filled to its 98,000 capacity it is one of the most intimidating cauldrons in European football.
If Rangers do tremble in similar fashion to every other team who has visited the Nou Camp this season, and Barca have never failed to score at least two goals either in domestic competition or the Champions League, then Barca will go to the top of the group.
Victory would also mean they qualify for the last 16 with two games remaining if Lyon also drop points at home to Stuttgart on the same night.
"Playing Rangers will be physical and tiring but we are clear about the objective. We have to play our game like we always do and get the three points because we want to qualify for the next round," added Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure on Monday.
The clash has been given added spice by the comments of Barcelona's winger Lionel Messi after their first match in Glasgow two weeks ago.
The often-inspirational Argentine player blasted Rangers' dogged defensive, if brutally effective, tactics against them as 'anti-football'.
"If that's the way this boy feels, then that's fine, but it's not going to make any difference to us because we are working to get the maximum number of points possible," responded Rangers manager Walter Smith this weekend.
"They (Barca) have a different way of doing things to us. Everyone has their own style, but I can understand why he was frustrated. They have one of the best forward lines in the world and want to win every game," added Smith.
Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is expected to start with almost the same team that beat Real Betis 3-0 on Sunday, with two goals from Ronaldinho after Thierry Henry had opened the scoring.
The only doubt is over right back Gianluca Zambrotta, who has a twisted left ankle.
If the Italian World Cup winner is not passed fit, Rijkaard will have to move around his back four with probably either Rafa Marquez or Oleguer Presas being recalled.
Rangers, presently second in the Scottish Premier League and three points behind their bitter local rivals Celtic, got a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday to put them in the right frame of mind to face Barca.
"I felt it was important that Brahim (Hemdani) was given a game," said Smith on Saturday.
"We can now look at him for the match against Barcelona if he came through without any problems," he added.
Hemdani has just recently recovered from a groin injury which caused him to miss their home match against Barca but, with Kevin Thomson suspended, the French midfielder is expected to start in the Nou Camp.
Barcelona have never played host to Rangers in European competition before but it is not the first time that the Scottish club has visited the Nou Camp.
It was the venue for their 1972 European Cup Winners' Cup triumph over Dynamo Moscow but was marred by thousands of drunken Scottish fans going on the rampage after the 3-2 victory.
The local police in Barcelona clearly have long memories because, with up to 15,000 Rangers fans expected to be in Barcelona on Wednesday, the game has been declared 'a high risk fixture'.
Local police have beefed up their security arrangements and they have also been in consultation with their counterparts in Pamplona after crowd problems at last season's UEFA Cup game between Osasuna and Rangers.

Maturing Kaka impressing everyone at AC Milan
AC Milan ace Kaka won big plaudits for his mature performance in last night's Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Brazilian is emerging as a leader this season and after scoring in the crucial win, said afterwards: "Pippo's two goals were decisive. And later, with more space, we were able to control the game.
"My goal? I couldn't help but score, it was easy enough. The important thing was the team's performance and our unity. But it was a goal that I enjoyed."
Kaka was also asked about the Ballon d'Or and was again humble: "I only think about what I can do. And what I can do is play well and give my best. Nothing more, nothing less."

Arsenal blame Man Utd for Fergie-gate
Manchester United's security staff have been blamed for sparking problems at Arsenal on Saturday.
The Mirror says witnesses have reported a United security official for allegedly goading Arsenal fans following the visitors' second goal during the 2-2 draw at the Emirates.
Arsenal have contacted Manchester United for their version of events after their security officer refused to cooperate.
But Sir Alex Ferguson has upset Arsenal with his claims that there were problems in the crowd directly behind the dug-out.
The Scot claimed after the game that there was "disgraceful abuse" aimed at his staff, "a lack of security" and there was an "absolute danger" to the bench.
Arsenal did eject a fan following the flare-up after the visitors' second goal and have now contacted United for their findings.
A United spokesman said: "The priority of our security staff at all times is to protect the players and the staff on the bench.
"It is nonsense to suggest there was any goading from our staff, as Arsenal confirmed after the game."

Nourish Your Skin from the Inside Out
Monday, September 17, 2007
Hey guys, as I was surfing the internet last night I came across something very interesting. It is a new trend which is to nourish the skin from the inside out. Even if you apply sunscreen you should take the newly discovered dietary supplement called R.G. Skin Revitalizer. Basically it is oil which has been extracted from the tropical fruit Gâc. When it’s taken with someone’s daily diet R.G. Skin Revitalizer essentially provides skin daily nourishment that works from the inside out.
At first I was skeptical about that, however after checking some reviews and opinions of regular customers I am pretty sure that this is something that will benefit the societies worldwide. Skin care is something that is crucial for a healthy life. And I think that R.G. Skin Revitalizer. will help anybody with skin problems.
The facts speak for themselves. One thing that stood out to me is that Gâc is grown in home gardens and it has been researched for years for its medicinal potentials. Another great thing about this product is that is very cheap. It is $44.99 and it worth it every cent you spend for it. Think about it: For only $44.99 you will be able to have an unbelievably healthy skin. I already purchased it, and I am on my way to healthy skin.

Bulgaria 3-0 Luxembourg
Two goals in two minutes from Tottenham Hotspur hit-man Dimitar Berbatov saw Bulgaria banish their painful memories from Saturday, when they lost 2-0 to the Netherlands despite playing ever so well.
This time, they were not found wanting when it came to getting the ball in the back of the net, Berbatov leading the charge.
After a cagey start, the deadlock was broken by the Spurs man in the 27th minute with a brilliant header, after getting on the end of a delicious free-kick from Aston Villa midfielder Stilian Petrov.
The second came in the very next minute. If the first showcased his aerial presence, the second was touch personified as he sent a delicate lob over the back-pedaling Jonathan Joubert.
The points were secured nine minutes into the second half, when Berbatov was bundled down in the area by Eric Hoffmann.
Many thought Berbatov would complete his hat-trick, but it was Petrov who stepped up and converted with ease to make it 3-0, and earn himself a deserved goal for his effort.
The result sees Bulgaria remain in contention to qualify from Group G, though they will need Romania or the Netherlands to drop points.
Goals: 1-0 Berbatov (27'); 2-0 Berbatov (28'); 3-0 Pertov (54', pen.)

Bulgaria - Wales 0:1
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Eastwood tested Bulgarian goalkeeper Dimitar Ivankov on several occasions, finally beating him with a 20-yard strike just as Greek referee Mechalis Germanakos was preparing to blow his whistle to signal the end of the first half.
Bulgarian manager Dimitar Penev, back in the dugout ten years after his first spell in charge came to an end, changed three of his starters at half time and it almost paid off instantly.
Velizar Dimitrov's shot was cleared into corner after a deflection, but CSKA's attacking midfielder remained the source of Bulgaria's most dangerous attacks as the hosts sought an equalizer.
Wales captain Danny Gabbidon almost scored an own goal in the 76th minute trying to clear a cross from Ivelin Popov, but the ball hit the post and trickled across the goalmouth, with no-one on hand to tap it in.
Dimitrov and Manchester City winger Martin Petrov came close to scoring in the final minutes of the match, but Wales' resolute defense battled to get the win despite the hosts' domination.

Man Utd boss Ferguson: Ronaldo can handle hype
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced Cristiano Ronaldo can handle the hype swirling around him.
He told the Daily Mail: "It's obvious when a talent like him comes along there will be attention. But this club have been used to that for years now. There was George Best and then Ryan Giggs.
"Every time a fresh, young talent comes along, they get praise heaped on them. This club are great at creating heroes all right. There's no question about that.
Ronaldo's 22. At that age you have to be flexible when it comes to curtailing their youthfulness. I remember Ryan Giggs coming in to training once wearing a new jacket and I said to him, 'Where the hell did you get that?' But he was a young lad.
"Young people do these kinds of things. They like to dress differently and they want a bit of freedom in their choices. They want to be men before they are men and, with Cristiano, a lot has happened to him in his time at Manchester United.
"But he has matured fantastically well. He is an intelligent boy who looks after himself. He has a lot of pluses.
"How players handle that celeb kind of attention, you never know. But with Ronaldo, he seems to do OK with that. He seems to be fine. He doesn't seem to be overwhelmed or overly flattered by it.
"The problem comes when players get flattered by it and start enjoying it. That's when you start worrying."
Ferguson added: "At the moment there's absolutely no sign that the boy will be wasted by it. When people ask to interview him, it doesn't worry me too much. He can cope."
Asked if Ronaldo can be a contender for the World and European Player of the Year awards, Ferguson concluded: "I hope he is. I hope two or three of them could be. Last season there was a fantastic improvement in Cristiano in terms of his goalscoring.
"To get 23 goals as a wide player is incredible. I know there were some penalties in there, maybe four or five, but to get something like 18 goals from open play as a wide player, there's not many players who can do that.
"Who was the last wide player to do that? It must have been Mike Summerbee or someone."

West Ham offer record £12M for Bolton's Anelka
West Ham United have made a club record £12 million offer for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka.
The Daily Mail says West Ham hope a £90,000-a-week salary will convince Anelka, 28, to join their growing band of Premiership diehards and, with the money they have offered Bolton, are confident of getting their man.
An club insider said: "When was the last time West Ham could offer big salaries and lure players from Liverpool and Arsenal - as well as someone with Anelka's pedigree? The answer is never."

Today United Will Negotiate For Berbatov!
Hey guys,I just wanted to say how excited I am that there is a chance Berbatov will play for Manchester United next season. This would be great and I think that he will succeed with the red devils. The reason for that is because he is the kind of player that if there are good players around him he will do magic stuff. Spurs are good but not good enough for Berbo, who is one of the top attackers in the Premiership and in the world.
We will see how things go with him going to Manchester. I hope things work out and soon we will see Berbatov with number 9 in Manchester United!

Joint Pain
Wednesday, June 13, 2007
Hey guys, all of us love sports and we play sports all the time. They are fun and they keep us healthy. However the bad side of sports is injuries, which can cause permanent damage to people. My friend got injured last week playing soccer and I did some research for a good doctor that can help him. Then I came across Dr. Gustafson which is one of the best in the fields of knee replacement. Dr. Gustafson, together with his dedicated staff, can provide:
Thorough evaluation and accurate diagnosis of joint pain
Effective treatment recommendations
Patient education resources
Expert surgical intervention, if needed
A complete recovery program
Dr.Gustafson seems the right doctor for my friend because his knee is doesn’t look good. After doing some further research I found out that Dr. Gustafson is one of the best in the field and surly he can help my friend. If you have any kinds of joint problems, Dr. Gustafson is there to help you.

Henry Set For Barca?!
Hey guys, after reading today’s news, I am pretty surprised. The reason for that is that Henry is moving from Arsenal to Barca. This for me is pretty surprising because, Arsenal doesn’t have many experienced players and they will be suffering tremendous losses. I think that Wenger is time to leave the club because Arsenal hasn’t been the same Arsenal as we know it. They are clearly weaker than Manchester and Chelsea and even Spurs. The European competitions are not going well and they didn’t show anything good for the cup matches. I think that if Henry leaves they will have to sign someone that will be a good goal scorer like Berbatov or Rooney, however both of these players aren’t available so I am thinking that they are going to go to Reyes, and probably Anelka. Things aren’t looking good for Arsenal and I think that if they don’t do a good selection this summer the up coming season will be worst than the previous one.

Torino to offer £6M for Man Utd's Saha
tribalfooball.com - May 31, 2007
Torino president Urbano Cairo is planning a bid for Manchester United striker Louis Saha.
Leggo says Cairo is convinced he can land Saha for a knockdown £6 million this summer given the spate of injury problems the Frenchman has endured since moving to Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists he's happy to hang onto Saha next season, but may use Torino's interest to flush out rival suitors to drive up the striker's price-tag. Along with the Italians, Olympique Lyon and Tottenham have also been linked with Saha in recent weeks.

Great Maps!
Tuesday, May 22, 2007
Hey guys today I want to talk about something that most of us use everyday, but don’t realize how important it is. I am talking about maps. A map is something that I always have in my car and the reason for that is because I travel always to very far distances. I have the GPS, however I have been experiencing some technical difficulties with it. So I decided to stick to the original version of a map.
As I was surfing the net last night I came across this great web site that offers Maps for Business or Pleasure. After exploring every bit of it, I decided to do some research on the company, just to see if they are credible and what customers say about it. Well after asking many customers I realized that this is the best web site that provides Maps for Business or Pleasure. Many business owners told me that they use it frequently, when they are about to start a new project and that Location Maps has been always satisfying their needs and wants. They offer all kinds of maps such as: printed maps, 3d artist impressions, integrated web mapping systems and site and floor plans. So if you are in a need of any kind of map I strongly recommend Location Maps.

Espanyol 2 vs 2 Sevilla 2007 Uefa Cup Final Penalties
Hey guys, I found this great video of the penalties. I had a chance to comment already on the game, but I think that the reality of it is that Espanyol wasn’t even close to the winners. Watching them in the Spanish championship, I have come to the conclusion that they are a some what good team without many qualities, and lots of luck. Anyways we have to congratulate them for the efforts and for the second place in this big competition.

Spurs to hand Jol £30M for three big signings
Sunday, May 20, 2007
The Mail on Sunday says Tottenham will back manager Martin Jol with £30 million to sign Darren Bent, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Gareth Bale as they try to break into the Champions League next season.
Owners ENIC are keen to extend White Hart Lane in the next couple of seasons and believe they have a chance of overhauling neighbours Arsenal to push into the top-four elite.
Spurs intend to offer £10 million for Charlton striker Bent and will make an £8 million bid for Southampton left-back Gareth Bale.
Martin Jol, the Tottenham manager, is also turning to Blackburn Rovers winger Pedersen after receiving little encouragement from Middlesbrough over his long-standing interest for Stewart Downing.

Chelsea win in extra time
The teams had drawn 0-0 in normal time and were four minutes away from a penalty shootout before Drogba exchanged passes with Frank Lampard on the edge of the area and shot past goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
The goal made Chelsea the first team since Liverpool in 2001 to win both FA Cup and League Cup in the same season and denied Premier League champion Manchester United a record fourth league and cup double.
Chelsea was the last team to win the FA Cup at Wembley before it was demolished - beating Aston Villa in the 2000 final - and is now the first to win at the new.
Each team had brought on an extra striker in extra time in an effort to get a goal to avoid the anxiety of a penalty shootout.
Ryan Giggs thought he had scored in the 103rd minute when he slid in to connect with a cross by Wayne Rooney. Goalkeeper Petr Cech got behind the ball but Giggs' momentum carried both the ball and Cech over the line. Referee Steve Bennett awarded neither a goal nor a foul.
United had enjoyed the greater possession throughout and looked the most likely side to win. However, in the 116th minute Kalou passed to Drogba about 25 metres from goal.
Drogba passed to Lampard on the right corner of the area, got a pass back immediately, and just got to the ball before Van der Sar to score.
The crowd of 89,826 - the largest at an FA Cup final for 19 years - watched the teams continue to compete fiercely without producing their best soccer.
Each team had chances to win before the match became the third straight final to go to extra time, but players - including Drogba and Rooney - either missed the target or were thwarted by the opposition goalkeeper.
United had the greater possession in an aggressive first half but it was Drogba who managed to head wide and then shoot over.
Running from the edge of the center circle and shooting wide with the toe of his boot, Drogba went close with a technique similar to that used by Roberto Di Matteo in scoring for the Blues in the 1997 cup final win against Middlesbrough.
Frank Lampard had a shot saved by Van der Sar, while United's veteran midfielder Paul Scholes volleyed wide and Rooney missed the target with only Cech to beat.
United pressured the Chelsea defense, which featured an out-of-position Michael Essien, with Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Giggs continually switching positions in attack.
However, Ronaldo, England's player of the year, had a subdued match. Chelsea deployed Shaun Wright-Phillips on the right of its midfield to shadow the Portugal winger and he used his pace to drop back and stop crosses coming in.
In the second half, Giggs, United captain in the absence of the injured Gary Neville, spent more time on the left wing, from where he has exploited opposition defenses for more than 15 years.
Giggs seemed to threaten Chelsea's defense whenever he picked up the ball in that position and almost scored what would have been the classic FA Cup goal 11 minutes into the second half.
An attack by United had broken down after Rooney had carried the ball the length of the field and Scholes found himself with the ball midway inside the opposition half. He sent in a lofted 30-meter (yard) pass to the left of the area where Giggs was waiting and the Wales winger hit a fierce volley just over the bar.
Rooney was similarly dangerous, running at defenders and muscling them aside almost at will. He had a shot saved by Cech in the first minute of the second period and the goalkeeper saved at his feet after another powerful run later on.
Giggs broke again in the 70th, beating Chelsea's wavering offside trap, and only a last-second tackle by Essien denied him a shot on goal.
Alan Smith replaced midfielder Darren Fletcher for United in extra time and joined Rooney up front, while Salomon Kalou came on for Wright-Phillips to play alongside Drogba.
Scholes set up another chance for Rooney with 10 minutes left, sending a 70-meter (yard) pass straight to the England striker's feet inside the area. However, the ball hit Rooney's knee and Cech was again able to save at his feet.
Kalou then shot wide from the edge of the area with Van der Sar beaten before setting up Drogba for the winner.

I personally knew most of them but I got stumbled on 3 of them. I am glad I found this great manchester united quiz because now I know even more for my favorite team. I strongly recommend this quiz for every soccer fan. Basically it will teach you the history of United. Also you will be able to learn some interesting facts which every self respected soccer fan has to know. For example I got this question: A dog saved Manchester United, what kind? To tell you the truth I had no idea but after doing some research I found out that a St. Bernhard was the correct answer. It has many fun questions and you will have fun with it. I recommend it for every soccer fan.

Man.Und Getting Closer To The Title!!!
The good news is that Chelsea is 1-1 at the 75th minute against Arsenal which means that the red devils will be champions in less than 15 minutes. I will make a special post about that.
Now I am going to watch the game just to make sure Chelsea doesn’t score a goal.

Magic Milan blow away United to reach Champions League final
MILAN, Italy (AFP)
AC Milan produced a masterclass display to blow away Manchester United 3-0 here on Wednesday and reach the Champions League final for the third time in the last five seasons.Milan - winners of six of their 10 European Cup/Champions League finals - will meet Liverpool in the Athens showpiece on May 23, a repeat of the 2005 final which the Merseysiders won on penalties after fighting back from 3-0 down at half-time to draw 3-3 in Istanbul.Milan and #39;s victory at a rain-drenched San Siro, secured by first-half strikes from Kaka and Clarence Seedorf and a late breakaway goal by substitute Alberto Gilardino, clinched a 5-3 aggregate semi-final win over the Premiership leaders and prevented the first all-English European Cup final.United showed glimpses of their attacking flair in the second half, but they couldn and #39;t find a way through a well organised Milan defence.Milan have featured in a record five Champions League finals since the competition replaced the old European Cup in the 1992-93 season.Milan were one of several Italian clubs found guilty of match-fixing in last year and #39;s and #39;Calciopoli and #39; scandal and were originally told by the Italian football authorities they would not be allowed to take part in the Champions League. But the club and #39;s appeal was successful and they were allowed to join the competition in the third qualifying round.Gennaro Gattuso, who hobbled off during the 3-2 first leg defeat after sustaining a foot injury, returned to the Milan midfield, but their captain, Paolo Maldini, was ruled out after aggravating a knee problem at Old Trafford.Kakhabar Kaladze came in for Maldini at the heart of the Milan defence, with Filippo Inzaghi replacing Gilardino while Massimo Ambrosini took the skipper and #39;s armband.United defender Nemanja Vidic started his first match after breaking his collarbone, while Rio Ferdinand made the bench having recovered from a groin injury. However, United coach Sir Alex Ferguson decided not to risk the England centre-back with a starting role. Frenchman Patrice Evra was suspended for the visitors.Milan almost went ahead in the third minute but Edwin van der Sar did brilliantly to tip Seedorf and #39;s fierce half-volley over the bar.Urged forward by a boisterous home crowd, the hosts kept up the early pressure and United and #39;s defence was breached eight minutes later.Alessandro Nesta and #39;s chipped pass found Seedorf whose backward header fell at the feet of Kaka, and the talented Brazilian steered a low, left-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net.Andrea Pirlo dragged a shot wide before United mustered their first attack, Ryan Giggs and #39; low drive comfortably saved by Nelson Dida.Milan looked threatening every time they pressed forward, but they were given a helping hand by the United back-four for their second goal on the half hour.Vidic and #39;s sliced a clearance out to the right flank and Pirlo took possession before crossing into the box.
A weak headed clearance dropped kindly for Seedorf who dodged Vidic and #39;s sliding tackle and hammered a right-footed shot beyond van Der Sar.Inzaghi almost made it 3-0 just before the break as Milan maintained their grip on a surprisingly one-sided contest with United and #39;s biggest threat, Cristiano Ronaldo, completely shackled.A last-ditch goal line clearance from Wes Brown denied Kaka in the 53rd minute before United squandered an excellent opening, Darren Fletcher firing wide after being put through splendidly by Wayne Rooney.Gilardino came on for the tiring Inzaghi and he made his mark 12 minutes from time, driving through the United defence before side-footing past van der Sar.

About Drugs
Hey people, I have several friends that I used to play soccer with. Well most of them now are playing professionally or they are playing for fun. However two of my teammates cannot enjoy anymore soccer. The reason is that they got into drugs which completely ended their soccer careers. It didn’t only ruin their sport careers but they ruined their life. Right now they are trying to get into drug rehab and I decided to do a little research for them, because they are my friends and they need my help. I came across this web site that offers a hot line and hopefully soon they will go to drug rehab and they will get back to their regular lives.
Drugs will only harm you and your family. They aren’t the solution to anything and believe me, they are not worth it.

Milan - Manchester 3:0
Hell people as you probably already know Milan just won the game against Manchester United with 3-0. It was a good game and I think that Milan deserved more to be on the final because they have more of a team than Manchester. Today they were simply terrible and I don’t know why they couldn’t get close to Dida all game. Anyway now Milan is on their way to Athens and they will face Liverpool.
Liverpool won last night against Chelsea and I think the final will be sweet. There is one thing that Milan wants so bad and that’s to get back at Liverpool because of the final in Istanbul before two years where they lost in penalties after they were leading 3-0.
So now our eyes are focused on Athens and I think we will be witnessing a memorable game.

Man Utd 7-1 Roma: Once-in-a-lifetime night
Manchester United produced one of the most stunning European performances of all time at Old Trafford to overwhelm Roma 7-1 and book a Champions League semi-final meeting with AC Milan or Bayern Munich.
AdamDavy/Empics
Alan Smith completes his return from a broken leg with a goal against Roma.
In 20 years as United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has seen and done virtually everything.
But never, in five previous attempts, has he presided over a Champions League knockout stage win from a first-leg defeat. And never, ever, has he seen one of his teams go out against the Italian masters of defence and score seven times.
On one of those once-in-a-lifetime nights when everything goes right, the Red Devils were unbelievably four up at half-time.
By the end they had a truly magnificent seven, with Michael Carrick and Cristiano Ronaldo getting two each, Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra just the one.
Trailing by a single goal from the first leg, the result represented United's biggest European win since they defeated Irish minnows Waterford by the same scoreline on the first stage of their run to the 1968 Final.
It was more than enough to take Ferguson's men into the last four for the first time since 2002, a win all the more remarkable because they were missing at least four automatic members of the Scot's first-choice line-up.
As the hosts headed off down the tunnel at half-time, their joyous supporters cheered themselves hoarse, wondering, perhaps, whether they had just witnessed the most amazing 45 minutes of European football this ground has ever seen.
After surviving a couple of early scares, United hit Roma like a whirlwind. The football they produced simply took the breath away.
The usual protagonists were to the fore as expected, but so too were Darren Fletcher, who probably only got his chance because Paul Scholes was suspended, and Carrick, who scored the first, played a major role in the second and at a stroke swept away the doubters who believed at #18.6million, the summer signing from Tottenham was far too expensive.
Carrick set United on their way in nerveless fashion, collecting Ronaldo's square pass, then advancing on the Roma goal.
Alexander Doni may look back and feel he got his angles wrong but in offering Carrick a clear sight of his top left-hand corner, he committed goalkeeping suicide. The midfielder gleefully dispatched a curling shot to light the blue touch paper on the end of which Roma's Champions League dream was burnt to a frazzle.
The home crowd were still buzzing when Carrick laid an exquisite pass to Rooney, who instantly flicked the ball onto Ryan Giggs. The Welshman's through ball deflected off Cristian Chivu to Smith.
In smashing home his shot, the Yorkshireman was banishing 14 months of injury hell. He was also scoring his first United goal since November 2005 and his first in this competition since netting for Leeds against Deportivo La Coruna at the same stage six years ago.
Roma were still reeling when they were hit by another thunderbolt as Ronaldo released Giggs, whose cross was flicked into the far corner by Rooney.
Having scored his first goal in 18 Champions League games a week ago, the England man suddenly has a taste for it.
So too, Ronaldo, who prior to this onslaught had never scored a goal in the competition but had predicted in a pre-match programme interview his time was coming.
It proved to be a fairly accurate assessment of the situation too as he collected the ball from Giggs two minutes before the break, attacked Chivu with his usual directness and slammed the ball into the bottom corner.
And that, for the first half at least, was that.
The incredulous Roma contingent could not quite believe what had happened. Their supporters, who had not exactly enjoyed the most hospitable Manchester welcome, tried to make the best of it. But their misery was not complete.
Rooney began the second period with a fizzing shot Doni flicked over.
Giggs' corner was half cleared but when Rooney ferried a pass back to the Welshman, he drilled a low cross to the far post where Ronaldo was waiting to bundle it home.
A sixth followed on the hour as Carrick collected Gabriel Heinze's pass and arrowed a shot into the top corner which was even better than his first effort.
Daniele de Rossi pulled one back for Roma but Evra soon cancelled it out to complete the rout.

LETS GO MILAN!
'New adventure'Maldini will make his 102nd UEFA Champions League appearance before a sold-out San Siro on Tuesday night, but far from being battle-weary, the evergreen 38-year-old cannot wait to lead his team out. "Each game is a new adventure for me, even after all these years," he said. "This is the best experience you can have as a player. Playing in front of a full house at San Siro in the latter stages of a fantastic tournament is unbeatable, and for a player who has suffered as many injuries as I have recently, the Champions League theme tune is the best therapy of all."
Injury woesThe former Italian international has been plagued by knee problems over the last two campaigns, and was rested for his side's 1-1 draw at AS Roma on Saturday with Bayern in mind. Indeed, the skipper's plight reflects that of his club, whose casualty list has reduced their ability to claw back an eight-point penalty imposed at the start of the Serie A season. Maldini, though, has reason to be confident of overcoming opponents whom the Rossoneri defeated 5-2 on aggregate in last year's first knockout round.
'Spirit of Manchester'"Both sides are more or less the same as they were last year," he said. "Neither has made major changes so it should be a similar sort of match. Perhaps last year we were playing better but we are improving now." Maldini's optimism also owes to memories of their last UEFA Champions League final triumph, against Juventus at Old Trafford in 2003. "We still have the spirit of Manchester in this team and, to be honest, it has been there for years. The spirit of Manchester is why we do so well in this competition. Players come and go as the years go by, but fortunately that same team spirit prevails.

Bulgaria - Albania 0:0
Today was another dark date in the Bulgarian soccer. After all the preparations and the words that Stoichkov said, I was thinking that we are going to win with like 3 or more goals. However today things didn’t happen the way I wanted them to. So first of all the game ended 0-0 and the worst part is that we could’ve been the losers of this game if the Albanian “soccer” players were really soccer players. The Albanian team is terrible and I don’t see how Bulgaria had a problem with them. Now all the hopes for Euro 2008 are gone and we are waiting the World Cup 2010 qualifiers. Ok people see you later.

Important Day!
Hey guys as you know tomorrow is a big day for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. I am very excited and I want Bulgaria to win with at least 3 goals. Albania isn’t anything special and I think that the fact that Berbatov costs more than the whole Albanian team speaks a lot. Well I think the result will be 3-1 and Bulgaria will keep on fighting to get to Euro 2008. There are many games tomorrow and I will make a post to share my opinions on all of them. Of course there will be surprises and we will see what they will be, however I am assuming that they will be in Spain and England. We will see.

Petrov Is Back!
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
As you know the time has come for the next round of the European Qualifiers for the Euro 2008. Bulgaria will face Albania and the good news is that the ex captain of the team Stilian Petrov is back. After long talks with the coach Stoichkov, they have decided to forget about their problems and do everything for the good of the team. There are mixed feelings about the coming back of Petrov, however I think that he will lead Bulgaria to the win against Albania. BTW the Bulgarian league is getting very interesting and tomorrow there will be some key games. I will report on them late tomorrow. See you later people.

Devils - Penguins
Hey guys, they are playing right now and it’s a very nice game I love hockey. The Pens are loosing 2-1 right now but this will change and I think that they will win the game. However I am still not happy with the fact that the Pens haven’t got a deal on their arena yet. The reason is that there is so many idiots in Pittsburgh and the biggest one is the mayor who doesn’t have idea what he is doing The last mayor of Pittsburgh got stadiums for the Pirates and the Steelers but for the Pens there isn’t anything because the current mayor sucks and should be taken down! I want a new arena in Pittsburgh!!

Champions League Tuesday
Hey guys, today was one of the greatest soccer days ever. First of all let me start with the amazing game between Barcelona and Liverpool. Liverpool went trough and I told you that yesterday. The only thing that spoiled my celebration of great soccer was the lucky win of Chelsea over Porto. I am tired of them and I hope they get Manchester United next round so they receive what they deserve. In Spain Valencia kicked out Inter and in the end of the game there was a huge fight. In France Lyon went out of the competition for my surprise Roma was playing decent soccer today and they won.
Tomorrow there is more interesting games.

Champions League Games
Hey guys, I just wanted to share with you my opinion on the games that are going to be played this Tuesday and Wednesday. I think that Liverpool, Milan and Manchester United are already in the next phase. However I think that we are going to see some pretty tough matches like Arsenal – PSV and Bayern – Real. I think that PSV and Bayern will go trough the next phase, simply because they are better teams in terms of organization. I am really excited about this round in the Champions League and I think that we are probably going to see some penalties which would be sweet. I guess we will find out tomorrow and on Wednesday.

Liverpool - Manchester United 0:1
Today Manchester United made a huge step towards wining the Premiership They won against Liverpool in a great game. I loved it. O Shea scored in the last minutes of the game which made the win even sweeter for United. I think that this game was the most important one of the season considering that Chelsea is behind 12 points. They have a game tonight against Portsmouth however I think they will get a tie because they need to save their players for the clash against Porto this upcoming week. Right now I am watching Arsenal and they are showing good soccer, however Reading isn’t such a great team and I think that the real challenge is going to be against PSV and if the Dutch side defends well Arsenal will be out of the Champions League.

J.Porter Kicked Out!
Hey guys, I don’t know the whole story yet but I herd just now on the radio that Joey Porter, is leaving the Steelers. I am shocked, because Porter has been playing an outstanding role in the team. After Randle El left the Steelers, now Porter is leaving too. This is bad news for any Steelers fan. I cannot explain the reasoning behind this absurd decision, to kick out the toughest guy in the NFL. I think the new coach is already making mistakes which will lead to another unsuccessful season. He is not the right guy for the job and everybody knows that. However he is already appointed as a coach so there is nothing we can do about it, maybe there is, pray that he wont kick out another players because with the tempo he is going the Steelers wont have a team by September.
